While on a cross-country roadtrip, Pete and Kieran decided to reach out to Matt and ask him play on songs with them for an upcoming gig.

The trio prepared five original songs along with covers by bands like Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, and Goose.

A combination of expertise and good chemistry allows the three-piece to sit down and write their original music as a team, and the result are songs that are well-rounded, never failing to fill the sonic space.

It is difficult to ascribe a genre to Kilgore Trout, but there is a common theme of storytelling in their music. They  strive, in each song, to transverse a breadth of feeling as wide as life itself.

But, like the Hudson River, their musicality and vivacity cuts through even the most staggering emotional topographies.

Pete could be playing shaker and singing delicately about his love, only for Matt to settle into an epic groove as Kieran’s solo soars high above the rest, all in the same song (their first single, Avalon Girl).

Building off of a wide palette of inspiration and a deep love of music, they are able to craft music that is both easy listening and pioneering in the feeling it evokes.
